The Must Have Inner Wear Checklist For You!
The amount of attention that most people pay to their outerwear is interesting, especially when you compare it to the amount of attention they pay to the types of inner wear they have. So, while they have jeans, trousers, casual pants, track pants, shorts and more, just for their bottom wear collection, they will probably just have one type of underwear, perhaps in several colours. But their imagination and thought often does not go beyond that fact – for them underwear is just that – underwear, something that will not be seen by the outside world.
What most people do not know is that the quality and fabric if your underwear is a lot more important than what you wear outside? After all, your underwear touches the most delicate parts of the body, stays in direct contact for the longer part of the day and also is the first layer to absorb sweat etc! So don’t you think that you need to spend a little more time and a little more effort in choosing the best kind of underwear for yourself?
Now there are those who would wonder what kind of underwear they need to have in their wardrobe (we believe there are also those who have no idea that there are different types of inner wear!) Well, there are some essentials that you must have:
-
Briefs: Perhaps the most common type of underwear, these are often the top pick for most men – these offer complete coverage in the pelvic region, but do not cover the thighs or the sides of the legs. These are offered in several varieties, such as high rise, mid rise and low rise. The reason why they are a constant favourite is that they can be worn under all kinds of clothes and offer complete comfort. Let’s say you are wearing slightly low waisted, you can choose low rise briefs, but for regular formal wear or when you are heading to the gym, you can look at mid-rise briefs. Now in case you have a slight paunch that you want to hide away for a special occasion, why not look at high rise.
-
Boxers: Loose fitting, these are the types of inner wear that have become extremely popular off late, mainly because of how comfortable they are. There are those who are choosing to wear boxers instead of regular shorts and you just might see your girlfriend stealing them away too, simply because of the comfort they offer. Reaching halfway down the thighs, these too can be worn pretty much underneath all types of clothes. One of the reasons why boxers are so comfortable is that they offer more breathability and more coverage as compared to briefs.
-
Trunks: What do you do when you have to wear real slim pants and you know that both briefs and boxers might not work? Simple, you choose trunks! For the longest time, trunks were considered only as a swimming outfit, but of late, they have become popular for their regular usage too. Because they sit on the mid to upper thigh, they offer really good coverage and of course the fact that they are flat on the front is an added advantage. This is one of those inner wear types that works really well for those who like briefs, but want to try something just a little different!

-
Briefs: More commonly known as granny panties, these are the ones that offer maximum coverage and often have a slightly higher waistband, and while they might not be the sexiest to look at, they are most often the most comfortable. These are actually the best choice during “those days” and can even help cover that slight paunch, when you want to look your best.
-
Bikini: Imagine a typical bikini bottom, this looks exactly like that – so you will get slim sides with a waistband that will sit right on the hips. The sides will be narrow, which means that you will get reasonable coverage on the front, but not at the back. When would you want to wear these – well you can wear these any time you want, but let’s say you are choosing a body con dress, this is the underwear you will want to choose.
-
Boy shorts: Not very different from the men’s briefs, these have a more rectangular shape and offer you a lot more coverage, as compared to the bikini version. However, they are not as boring as those ‘granny panties’ and have often been described to be incredibly comfortable. Because they offer full front and back coverage, they are a great choice for when you are wearing shorts or skirts or dresses – in case you have one of those Marilyn Monroe moments, you will have little to be worried about.
-
Hip huggers: Like the name suggests, these are the types of underwear that ‘hug the hips’, by which we mean that they sit around the hipline and sit much above the thighs. These are the perfect choice for when you don’t want that ‘whale tale’ showing – so go for these when you intend to wear low waisted jeans and are planning to sit down!
